Muslim children's book style example

N° 01Why specialised matters

Specialised illustration, not generic.

Muslim children's books aren't general picture books with a hijab added. They're books that can hold Islamic values, stories from the Seerah, Qur'anic parables, or the quieter daily rhythms of a Muslim family — all illustrated with the care the subject deserves.

Most illustrators don't know what to draw or what not to draw, and authors end up making concessions they shouldn't have to. We work within the conventions of Islamic visual culture by default — which mostly means we listen first, and we ask the right questions before anyone starts drawing.

N° 02What we illustrate

Books for Muslim children of every age.

01

Islamic values stories

Books about kindness, patience, honesty, gratitude — the daily virtues rooted in Islamic tradition, told through everyday characters.

02

Seerah and prophetic stories

Stories from the lives of the Prophets — illustrated with the appropriate respect for visual conventions. We discuss representation with each author before we start.

03

Du'a and Qur'an introduction books

Books that introduce children to daily du'as, short surahs, and basic Islamic practice. Often bilingual (Arabic + English, Arabic + Urdu, Arabic + French).

04

Ramadan and Eid

Stories around the rhythm of the Islamic year — fasting, iftar, Eid celebrations, the practical and emotional shape of the month.

05

Hajj and Umrah books

Stories that introduce children to the rituals of Hajj — ages 4–9 is the sweet spot. Often tied to a child's parents or grandparents going on pilgrimage.

06

Family and community life

The unglamorous, lovely material of Muslim family life — the masjid, extended family, halal food, modest dress, daily prayer — illustrated without exoticising it.

N° 03How we work

With you, from the first sketch.

Every project starts with a longer conversation than usual. We want to understand your madhab where relevant, your community's conventions, your preferences on human representation, and what you've seen done badly in existing books that you want to avoid.

We take direction from you. If the book should illustrate prophets through light and symbol rather than human form, we do that. If your book is fine with children drawn facing the reader but prefers adults illustrated from behind or in silhouette, we can work that way. These aren't constraints — they're the craft of the brief.

Bilingual and right-to-left layout (for Arabic, Urdu, and Farsi editions) is included in all our interior design work at no extra cost.

N° 05Questions

The answers we give most often.

Do you illustrate prophets?
We follow the author's direction. Where prophets are depicted in illustration at all, we work with the conventions that fit your community — often through light, symbol, or careful framing rather than explicit human depiction. We'll discuss this in detail before any spread goes past sketch.
Can you do bilingual books?
Yes, and it's included in the Signature tier. We layout books in two scripts side-by-side (common for English + Arabic, English + Urdu, English + French Muslim markets). Right-to-left script layout is designed natively, not flipped.
Can you handle Arabic calligraphy?
We typeset Arabic in high-quality typefaces appropriate for picture books. For actual calligraphic artwork (hand-lettered Qur'anic verses, for instance), we partner with specialist calligraphers and integrate their work into the layout.
Do the characters have to wear hijab?
Entirely your call. We illustrate characters in whatever cultural dress the story calls for. We default to nothing — you tell us, and we illustrate accordingly.
